The Oyo State Government has intensified its campaign towards achieving a cleaner and healthier environment as 11 individuals were arrested last night for illegally dumping waste on the road median in parts of the state capital.

The arrest was carried out by the Environmental Response Rapid Squad in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers attached to the enforcement team.

The operation, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, is part of continuous efforts to curb environmental nuisance and promote proper waste management practices across the state.

Delivering judgment in accordance with the Oyo State Environmental Laws, Justice Thomas Akinkunmi imposed fines ranging from ₦10,000, ₦20,000, and ₦50,000 on the offenders, depending on the gravity of their offences.

The Ministry, while reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable and habitable environment, warned residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially on road medians and unauthorized areas.

It added that sensitization and enforcement will continue across all zones to ensure total compliance with environmental regulations.

The government also appreciated law-abiding residents who have continued to support the environmental sanitation initiatives and urged others to emulate them in keeping Oyo State clean, green, and safe for all.
