Five thousand members of All Progressives Congress (APC), in Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State, have dumped the main opposition party for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
At a grand rally held at Ojude Oba, frontage of Iba of Kishi’s palace where the defectors were received, the leader of APC in Irepo, Alhaji J.S Amodu said their defection to the PDP is significant as they hail from deputy governor’s local government.
While welcoming the defectors to the ruling party, Oyo Deputy Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal said:
“This wave of defection from the APC to the PDP is judt the tip of the iceberg, we will move to more Local Government Areas to receive more defectors from the APC to the PDP as my principal Governor Seyi Makinde has set in motion moves to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party before the flag off of campaign on 5th January , 2023.
He called on PDP leaders in the local government to accommodate all the members who just returned to the party.
“I want to implore all stakeholders of our party to as a matter of fact accommodate our members who just returned.
“Every position they deserve should be given to J.S Amodu and late Hon Ojo’s group that also fused into our party and their supporters. We have to reposition and restructure the party to accommodate all interest.
“Hon Amodu is not just a local politician but national one for that matter.All slots from ward to other levels should be given to them.
“We must deliver bloc votes to PDP in 2023, I charge all our leaders from Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo federal Constituency to improve massively on our voting strength.”
On his part, a stalwart of the PDP in Oyo State and Asiwaju of Igbeti, Chief Jacob Adetoro Jacob said he was excited to see the return of former party Chieftain and Executive Chairman of Irepo local government, Hon , J.S Amodu adding that his return to the party has come to add value to the ruling party in Oyo State.
While speaking on behalf of thousands of his supporters, Alhaji J.S Amodu declared that he has returned from his sabbatical in the APC noting that the appointment of Bayo Lawal as deputy governor and the sterling performance of Governor Seyi Makinde are among the reasons he decided to return to his former party (PDP).
He lauded Makinde for appointing Lawal who he described as a super deputy governor and co-pilot of his principal. He therefore urged all sons and daughters of Irepo local government to troop out en mass on election day to cast their votes for all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The mega event was attended by Wife of the deputy governor, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal, Executive Chairman of Irepo local government, Hon Adediran Santana, Local Government party chairman, Chief Jacob Adetoro, Hon Yusuf from Igboho, Oyo North Senatorial candidate, Hon Akinwale Akinwole (Wolekanle), House of Representatives candidate, Ijabbah, Hon Kazeem Olayanju among others.
