Prominent political juggernauts in Ogbomoso zone on Saturday endorsed Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for a second term in office.
Rising from the zonal meeting held at Lagbami Osekun Hall in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in the zone, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi moved the motion for a second term tenure for Governor Seyi Makinde. The former House of Representatives member said the Governor has been fair to Ogbomoso in the area of appointment infrastructure, health, agriculture and other areas. The meeting was strictly meant for Oyo State Government officials from Ogbomoso extraction, serving caretaker chairmen, all executive members of the PDP from Ogbomoso zone .
In attendance were Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa; Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyewo Oyelowo; Chairman, Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, Dr Dotun Oyelade, DG OYSIPA, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi; Barrister Olatunbosun Olaleye, Commissioner for Education; Prince Sanjo Adedoyin, Majority Leader, House of Assembly; Hon Felix Akande, former Chairman, Ogbomoso South LG; Hon Razak Gbadegesin, Former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Alao Akala; Majority Leader of House of Assembly, Onaolapo Sanjo Adedoyin; Former Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Bayo Bankole and a host of other party members.
Speaking on behalf of all the PDP local government Chairmen in Ogbomoso, Hon. Judge Ogunlade, spoke on how the party has been faring since the current government came on board and appreciated the efforts of the governor.
He said: “The governor believes there is a party and there is a government and He has not stopped recognising the party as a whole. Everyone is seeing the good things, which the governor is doing in Oyo State. I can tell you that there is no party that has more members than us. In Surulere LG, council chairman called us. In Oriire, Ogbomoso South and Ogbomoso North, they are calling us. So, I can say we are having people from ZLP, ADC and APC. The most interesting part of it is, we have not seen part of us defecting to other political parties, rather they are the ones joining us.
“We thank God for our Governor. Before we voted, during the primary election, some of our members left but after we got into government, they came back and the Governor asked us to absorb them.
“So, we thank God there is peace and those who are disgruntled are now calm. Out of 33 chairmen that were affected, 4 have been reinstated and they have been asked to continue their duty.”
He explained that what the governor has done will also be extended to the wards so that there can be overall peace in the party.
Enjoining party members: “The governor said he is aware of the crimes of party members. He said we should give him three weeks for him to settle the matter.”
Hon. Seun Ojo, representative of 12 PDP caretaker chairmen, in his remark:
“God has used the Governor to achieve many things in the party in Ogbomoso in terms of infrastructure. In this Ogbomoso South local government, some places are now motorable and we are making it look as though PDP is the only party in this place. People are happy with the government of PDP. Some coverts have been fixed. In Okeoluwa LG, same thing is happening. Also in Odooba, we are also doing our best. The chairmen have taken care of a number of farmers.”
He stated that each of the chairmen contributed N38m to construct the stadium in Ogbomoso, adding that each ward now has health centre.
He assured that they will not renege in their support for the administration of Governor Makinde.
Former Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Bayo Bankole.
“The regular payment of workers salary is like extra curricular activity for Governor Makinde. We really need to support him. I want to urge us to continue with the food works.”
In his remark, DG OYSIPA, Honorable Segun Ogunwuyi:
“I can tell this gathering that we have witnessed tremendous increase and need to keep striving hard. He has proved that he love the people of Ogbomoso so dearly by doing some certain things for us. He encouraged us by giving us Attorney General.
“Today, over 40 per cent of the allocation of the state resides with us here. We also have the DG Signage, who is in charge of a revenue generating board for the state. I am also the DG Investment. So, more of us will be involved if we exercise patience. When we are talking about the media aspect, we have Dr Oyelade, who is the Chairman of BCOS and Mr Taiwo Adisa, who is the Chief Press Secretary. The Governor has done a lot for us but we will still ask for more. As far as I am concerned, on the issue of appointment, I believe Ogbomoso is well represented.
“I can also boldly tell you that Oyo State is one of the safest but there are still some challenges. He is a good man and I believe he will take us to the promised land.
“As of today, there is an approval for 50 healthcare centres in Ogbomoso zone
One per ward, which will be well equipped and well staffed.
“On agriculture, we also have farm settlements here. Most of the land have been encroached but we are looking into the aspect so that it can have a human face.
“Because of the kindheartedness of the governor, Oyo was the only state in South- West that did COVID-19 intervention of N1bn. He has already approved N500m for us. So, we really need to appreciate our Governor.
“On infrastructure, he did light-up, repair of Under-G road.”
He moved the motion for second term tenure for Governor Seyi Makinde.
Honorable Elder Matthew Abioye, Former HOA member, representing Ogooluwa/Suurulere Constituency, seconded the motion.
Also speaking, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Commissioner for Education:
“Some model schools in Ogbomoso have been completed. Let me also say there is no local government that is left out here.
“We are happy that we are now sole owner of LAUTECH. So, we urge you to always support this administration.”
AG Oyewo:
“I am happy to be one of the team that worked towards achieving the sole ownership of LAUTECH. During the negotiation for sole ownership, we discovered that we have just used just 10 per cent of the portion of landmass belonging to LAUTECH. Very soon, I can assure you that LAITECH will not just be producing educated but learned people. In Oyo State, God has won for the PDP.
“On security, we have to cooperate with Amotekun on what they are doing. We also have to know the truth about security because there are a lot of fake news out there. I want you take this away, that there is no party that is as unique as PDP in Oyo State.”
Majority Leader of House of Assembly, Onaolapo Sanjo Adedoyin:
“We are always ready to support the Executive at anytime. One of the first things we did was to work on the reinstatement of workers that were sacked by the previous administration. I want to let you know that the governor does not want anyone to suffer. He is a merciful Governor. Those who are speaking ill of him are only trying to play politics. Sinverely, whoever tells you he does not love us is feeding you with lie. He is personally determined and after the progress of this state. There is nothing that will stop LAUTECH from doing the best.”
Mr Sanjo Ogunwole, a party member, who spoke:
“Our governor did not start from being fair. He started from being good and we know he will become the best. All we need is to be united and supportive. We are performing but we should perform better and be close to those at the grassroots.”
Representative of women, Hon Tewogbola a.k.a CashMama:
“I want us to look into the media. I want us to engage more of our youths in the media network. We know that the Governor is carrying women along in his government. So, we appreciate him also for the welfare programmes he has embarked on. We, the women, are resolutely committed to his second term and will work tirelessly to achieve this.”
