2027: I’m not neophyte in Oyo Politics – Oriyomi Hamzat Fires Back at Detractors

Speaking at a recent political gathering, Hamzat addressed criticisms from opponents who reportedly describe him as “new” to politics and question his sudden emergence in the race.
According to him, the same political actors who now dismiss him once welcomed his presence when he moved closely within their circles.
“When I was following them up and down, they didn’t say I was new then,” Hamzat told supporters.
“Now that I am out to contest for the seat of the Oyo State governor, they say I am new.”
His remarks were met with cheers from attendees, signaling strong grassroots enthusiasm around his candidacy.
Hamzat recently declared his intention to run for governor under the platform of the Accord Party, formally joining the party in a well-attended event in Ibadan.
At the declaration, he said his decision was driven by what he described as overwhelming calls from residents urging him to step into active politics.
At the latest gathering, the broadcaster-turned-politician suggested that his widespread recognition through radio advocacy and community engagement has unsettled career politicians.
He claimed they are now questioning “when he even came” into politics, despite his long-standing involvement in public affairs across the state.
Hamzat framed his ambition as a divine mission, ending his speech on a faith-filled note: “By God’s grace, I shall get to where God is taking me to.”
As the 2027 race gradually takes shape, observers say Hamzat’s transition from media personality to governorship contender introduces a new dynamic into Oyo’s political landscape.
