The political atmosphere in Oyo State is rapidly gaining intensity following the entry of Ambassador Abdulsabur Abiola Olawore into the 2027 governorship race under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A proud son of Ibadan North Local Government Area and Mogaji of Ile Odefunke in Oke-Are, Abiola’s emergence has drawn significant attention across Ibadanland, where he is widely regarded as a unifying figure with broad-based acceptance cutting across communities and political interests.
At 46, he represents a compelling mix of youth, intellect, and experience. Described by supporters as highly cerebral, Abiola combines strong academic grounding in Civil Engineering with a distinguished career spanning construction, real estate, and international consultancy.
He currently leads Atlas Multinational Synergy Nigeria Limited as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, overseeing major development initiatives since 2020.
His professional footprint extends well beyond Nigeria. In the United Kingdom, he served as an IT Engineer with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and worked with Fujitsu/Capgemini on critical banking infrastructure projects in London.
He later advanced his career in the United States as a SAP/ERP Enterprise Resource Consultant with KPMG in Newark, New Jersey, gaining valuable experience in enterprise systems and financial management.
This blend of local roots and global exposure has fueled growing confidence among stakeholders who believe Abiola is eminently qualified to lead Oyo State.
His profile reflects the kind of leadership needed to navigate the complexities of modern governance while delivering tangible development.
Adding to his credentials is his international recognition as an Ambassador with the International Human Rights Commission, a role that underscores his engagement with global institutions and commitment to human rights and good governance.
Political observers point to his extensive international connections as a strategic advantage, noting that such networks could open doors for foreign investments into Oyo State particularly in infrastructure, housing, and economic development sectors.
A loyal PDP member from Ward 1, Ibadan North, Abiola has reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s ideals while outlining a forward-thinking agenda focused on infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, economic growth, and transparency in governance.
In his early engagements with party members and community leaders, he emphasized the need for leadership that blends innovation with experience.
“Oyo State has the potential to lead in development and economic prosperity, but it requires vision, competence, and the right partnerships,” he stated.
As consultations deepen and alignments begin to take shape, Ambassador Abdulsabur Abiola’s entry is already reshaping conversations within the PDP and beyond, positioning him as a formidable contender in the journey toward 2027.
