JUST IN: AKIN FAGBEMI RE-ELECTED INTO NIFST NATIONAL GOVERNING COUNCIL
Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has just being re-elected into the National Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST, Chartered) at the just concluded 44th National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Institute held at D’Podium event Center, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The Conference tagged “The Summit” was Chaired by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar A. Rasheedmfr while the Keynote Address on the theme “Agro and Food Processing for Wealth Creation: The Nigerian Experience” was delivered by the CEO/MD Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc. Mr. Paul Miyomide Gbedebo who buttressed on full adoption of Food Industrial Backward Integration System which was in alliance with the goodwill message from the conference Chief Host, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, FRN.
Other dignitaries in attendance were the Fmr. Deputy Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Prof. Afeez Abubakar, Prof. (Mrs.) Moji Adeyeye, DG/CEO, NAFDAC among several others.
If you would recall, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, a seasoned scientist with a PhD in Food Biotechnology and several Professional Certificates obtained within and outside Nigeria was at the 43rd Annual General meeting of the Institute held in Awka, Anambra State elected as National Secretary after successfully serving as Assistant National Secretary for two consecutive years (2017-2019).
His immense contributions to knowledge, institutional growth and development of the Institute has been described by his professional colleagues as the reason for his successful re-election into the Council.
Established in 1976, the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) is a registered Non-Profit Making Body representing food professionals drawn from the Academia, Industry, Government and Research Organizations in Nigeria.
Additionally, membership of the Institute extends to the IITA, Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC, SON, Nigeria Flour Mills, Nestle among others. The Institute was recently accorded the Chartered Status by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria thus enabling it acquire professional recognitions as its counterparts such as ICAN, COREN, CORBON et. al which is believed to empower the Institute in its mission to harnessing the abundance of talents and knowledge amongst food professionals in Nigeria towards food sufficiency and good nutrition of the masses.
Dr. Akin Fagbemi hopes for more success even as he re-energizes to consolidate the successes recorded in the recent past in an effort to making NIFST the foremost Institute contributing most significantly to National Economic Development.
