Oyo Deputy Speaker Lauds Makinde on Decision to Conduct Primaries For LG Polls
The Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Mohammed Fadeyi has eulogised the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for considering primaries for the forth coming local government elections in the state.
The primaries is scheduled to hold tomorrow March 4, 2021 across the 33 council areas in the state.
Hon. Fadeyi said the development will no doubt strengthen and depeen Democratic rule and system in the state, as against the back drop of some people calling for hand picking of aspirant or consensus candidacy which is against the tenets and dictates of Democratic system.
He noted that all eyes are watching the process of the exercise, which could underscore or undermine the process of democratic governance in the state, thereby commending governor Makinde for his firm and thoughtful decision.
According to him, the state House of Assembly is in full support of the position of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in conducting free and fair primaries in the forth coming local government polls.
Hon. Fadeyi therefore urged members of the PDP and all the contestants to abide by the rules of the game and as well demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship in the exercise as there can only be one winner.
Reacting to some comments by Oyedele Alao, a former governorship candidate on the platform of Alliance For Democracy in the 2019 general elections in the state, describing the state Assembly as incompetent, the Deputy Speaker described the statement as a cheap talk to seek unnecessary relevance in the political scene of the state.
He said Alao is just seeking unnecessary attention which will not take him anywhere, just as he admonished him to face his business.
“Let him first go and contest councillorship election in his ward to know his weight. And again, what is his pedigree in the scheme of politics in the state, Hon Fadeyi queried.
“I am challenging him to an open debate, Alao should go and face his business and allow our dynamic governor continue his good work in the state., he added
