In the ever-evolving landscape of the traditional institution in Oyo State, one figure stands out for his remarkable efforts in managing and overcoming the challenges it faces. Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as a transformative leader, implementing a revolutionary practice that has breathed new life into the traditional stool across the state.

With his comprehensive approach and unwavering commitment, he has not only strengthened these institutions but also restored their significance and relevance in contemporary times. Makinde’s visionary management ethics, in successful handling of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Aseyin of Iseyin Obaship, as well as the highly anticipated selection of the next Alaafin of Oyo is a model for all leaders across the nation.

When the late Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, the Soun of Ogbomoso, passed away, Governor Makinde faced the daunting responsibility of overseeing the succession process. Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to fairness and transparency, Makinde approved the installation of the 30th Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye. Notably, Olaoye was a former pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, adding an element of diversity to the traditional stool.

Makinde adeptly navigated the complexities and challenges of the Obaship imbroglio, effectively neutralizing any attempts to undermine the influence and majesty of the Soun throne. Through his preparedness and swift reasoning, peace and unity were restored to the State Traditional Institution.

The passing of the late Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Salawudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi Ajinese 1, presented Governor Makinde with yet another opportunity to showcase his dedication to transparency and fairness. The kingmakers identified Prince Olawale Semiu Oyebola as the preferred candidate to ascend the stool of Aseyin of Iseyin. Makinde’s role was crucial in ensuring a seamless transition.

He respected the autonomy of the traditional institution and supported their decision-making process, upholding age-old customs and traditions. By doing so, Makinde reinforced the significance of the institution and nurtured unity, stability, and cultural pride among the people of Oyo State.

Makinde’s revolutionary practice extends beyond individual cases, reaching into the highly anticipated selection of the next Alaafin of Oyo. Recognizing the profound impact this decision holds on Yoruba culture and the overall stability of the state, the governor has urged indigenes and princes vying for the revered stool to prioritize unity and the preservation of traditional values.

Makinde has made it unequivocally clear that financial considerations and favoritism will have no influence on the selection process. By ensuring fairness, integrity, and adherence to time-honored customs, he has garnered praise from the residents of Oyo town and the wider Yoruba community.

The eager anticipation surrounding the ratification of the new Alaafin of Oyo is a testament to Makinde’s exceptional leadership and management ethics.

Governor Makinde’s approach to managing the traditional institution in Oyo State reflects his unwavering commitment to preserving cultural heritage and fostering unity. By actively engaging with the intricacies and sensitivities of traditional stool succession, he has demonstrated a deep understanding of the historical and cultural significance of these roles.

Makinde’s focus on principles such as fealty, subordination, and loyalty to the Olubadan throne has effectively restored harmony and reverence to the Ibadan Traditional Institution. His management ethics have played a crucial role in strengthening the traditional institution and ensuring its continued relevance in the modern era.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s revolutionary practice and management ethics in handling traditional stools across Oyo State have significantly contributed to the preservation and revitalization of the traditional institution.

His successful management of the Soun of Ogbomoso and Aseyin of Iseyin issues, as well as his approach to the selection of the next Alaafin of Oyo, exemplify his unwavering commitment to fairness, unity, and cultural heritage.

As the anticipation builds for the ratification of the new Alaafin, Makinde’s instincts and leadership are poised to shape Yoruba culture and ensure stability in the traditional institution.
