Over 33 Months Unpaid Salaries: Hon Adepoju Lays Petition On Behalf of 70 Employees of UCH
Member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has laid a petition on behalf of the unpaid employees of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State.
The petition was signed by 10 members of staff, representing about 70 employees who have not been paid for more than 33 months.
Presenting the petition with the title: “An appeal to the Honourable House to intervene to right the continuing injustice against employees of the University College (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State,” on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the lawmaker expressed that the affected employees have not been paid for over 33 months, appealing for the intervention of the hallow chamber in the matter that has made life unbearable for the concerned individuals.
Recall that some of the affected employees of UCH, on July 26, 2022, through Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), had accused both the hospital management and the federal civil service commission of non-payment of their salaries since January 2021, which has remained unresolved since then.
However, prominent among the petition’s prayers, as read by Hon. (Dr.) Adepoju on the floor of the House yesterday, was for the Honourable House to prevail on the management of the University College Hospital to look into why the concerned individuals have not been paid and also with a hope of them getting paid.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the petition, Hon. Adepoju said the goal is to ensure that the employees are paid for their service and that they are treated fairly and with maximum respect.
“This is an important issue, and it is our hope that the House will take necessary action to resolve the matter brought before it.” He said.
