…Promises to Construct 2,500 Housing Units in 12 Months

The Oyo State Housing Corporation has clarified that it does not plan to revoke land from individuals at Ajoda New Town estate in Ibadan, in response to recent allegations in some quarters.

The corporation’s chairman, Hon Demola Omotoso, addressed concerns during a press briefing on Wednesday at corporation’s headquarters, following claims made by some illegal occupants who feared losing their property.

Omotoso revealed that around 4,000 encroachers have been identified in the estate, asserting that many of these individuals acquired their land from unscrupulous sellers without the necessary government approval.

He emphasised that these transactions lacked legitimate land titles, making their claims to the land questionable.

Despite these challenges, Omotoso indicated a willingness to integrate the encroachers into the corporation’s future development plans.

“We understand the situation and, with the governor’s support, we aim to incorporate these individuals as official tenants,” he said.

Reflecting on the history of Ajoda New Town, which was established 47 years ago by former military administrator Gen. David Jembewon, Omotoso noted that the area has faced significant encroachment.

He expressed a vision for future developments, including a proposed Ajoda-Gulf estate featuring recreational amenities aimed at attracting a higher demographic.

Additionally, the corporation plans to enhance local commerce by constructing a shopping mall at Olubadan estate, which will host over 300 shops.

Omotoso, however, praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his ongoing efforts to boost the state’s economy and infrastructure, emphasising the importance of community support in achieving the corporation’s goals of providing affordable housing for all.

The event had in attendance boards members, Hon Olakunle Akinsete, Reverend Adeboyin, Mrs Adeyemi, General Manager, Mr Toyese and other directors.
