    Ibadan Funfair Tragedy: Arapaja Sympathises With Oyo Govt, Victims’ Families

    The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the People’s Democratic Party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives resulting from the stampede at the children’s funfair carnival held at Islamic High School, Bashorun yesterday.

    The unfortunate event, was said to have been organized by an NGO, Women in Need of Guidance and Support for vulnerable children in Ibadan.


    In a condolence statement personally issued by Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja but made available to journalists through his Personal Assistant, Bamitale Ibrahim, Arapaja disclosed that the incident which left 35 innocent children dead while many also injured has left the his heart heavy with grief for the families of the affected.

    According to the statement, Wednesday 18th December, 2024 was a sad day in Ibadan when the unthinkable happened in the city with the loss of 35 Innocent children as reported at a Christmas funfair programme.

    I extend my heartfelt condolences to the parents and relations of the victims. I equally extend my condolences to the government of Oyo state under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde for its swift response to arrest the situation.

    I stand in solidarity with the injured who are still in different health facilities and pray the Lord will heal them speedily.

    This incident underscores the importance of proper planning and coordination for events involving children, elders and other vulnerable groups.

    As we reflect on this tragic event, it is important to call on organisers of similar events and programmes to always prioritize safety of the public.”

    I pray to God Almighty to console the bereaved families and may the souls of the departed children rest well.” Arapaja concluded.
