Members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Chapter,  in their thousands gathered at the frontage of the Governor’s Office Agodi Ibadan to express gratitude to governor Seyi Makinde on the recent pension review in the state, which led to upward increase in the monthly pension of the lowest-earning pensioners in Oyo state to ₦25,000.

Addressing the elated Pensioners, Governor  Seyi Makinde who was represented by his Deputy, Barrister Bayo-Lawal, noted that the state Pensioners have served and paid their dues accordingly, hence the need to prioritize their welfare.

While pledging that the present administration would not owe any pensioner a dime at the end of its tenure, Governor Makinde who described their gesture as unprecedented, charged them to always channel their demands through appropriate quarters.

Delivering his speech titled “Resurrected Pensioners in Oyo state Appreciate Engineer Seyi Makinde” the state Secretary NUP, Comrade Segun Abatan, described the pension review as “unprecedented” noting that the review has not only improved the livelihoods of pensioners but also boosted market activities due to increased spending power.

The rally had in attendance the secretary to the state government, Prof Olanike Adeyemo, Head of service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, and some other political functionaries.
