Oyo State Government has flagged-off a pioneering health insurance scheme for pupils in primary schools in the pace setter state.
Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, flagged off the scheme initiated by Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) in Ibadan.
Barrister Lawal said the purpose of the scheme is to ensure that children have sound mind while learning and showcasing talents through the provision of conducive environment, atmosphere and good health system.
The Deputy Governor while charging OYSHIA to double their efforts in extending the scheme to every schools in the state, urged parents and teachers to key into the scheme for their wards to thrive.
In his welcome address, Executive Secretary, OYSHIA, Dr. Sola Akande, revealed that the scheme which targeted ten thousand pupils with the support of UNICEF and Oyo state Universal Basic Education would be extended.
In their separate goodwill messages, Chief of UNICEF Lagos field, Ms. Celine Lafouriere and Chairman Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, expressed readiness to continued partnership for children to focus on education and grow to productive adults.
At the event, Deputy Governor performed a symbolic distribution of cards to selected pupils from eleven local government areas.
