2027 Presidency: After Fayose, Wike Reveals Private Conversation With Makinde

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed details of a private conversation with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following his (Makinde) recent public statements regarding the 2027 presidential election. Westernmirror reports.

Speaking on ongoing developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike disclosed that he reached out to Makinde after watching an interview in which the governor made certain claims.

“After watching that interview, I called Seyi Makinde, who is my friend, and said, ‘Look, I heard what you said, but you didn’t tell the truth,’” Wike said, suggesting a clear disagreement over narratives being pushed by key party stakeholders.

Wike’s comments come amid growing internal tensions within the PDP as political activities gradually build up toward the 2027 general elections.

The former Rivers State governor raised alarm over what he described as self-serving political maneuvering within the party, specifically targeting former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who is reportedly engaged in coalition talks.

According to Wike, these coalition efforts are less about strengthening the opposition and more about positioning certain individuals for personal political gain.

“It’s not about rebuilding the party. It’s about ambition, purely about who wants to run in 2027,” he said, casting doubt on the sincerity of the ongoing alliance conversations.

He warned that the party risks further fragmentation if internal decisions continue to be made without proper consultation.

He was particularly critical of the PDP Governors Forum’s recent move to appoint an acting National Secretary, describing it as another example of impunity and disregard for the party’s constitution.

“This same attitude is what cost us dearly in the last elections,” Wike added, stressing that if the PDP fails to learn from past mistakes, its prospects in 2027 could be even worse.
