    Hon Sanda Leads Campaign Against Cultism, Drug Abuse Among Students in Egbeda

    As part of his efforts and determination to curb the rising cases of cultism and drug abuse among youths and teenagers most especially secondary school students in Egbeda local government.

    The Executive Chairman of Egbeda local government, Hon Sanda Sikiru Oyedele who was represented by the Director of Education and Social Services, Mrs Bosede Ilugbaro led the awareness campaign against cultism and drug abuse in the council area.

    While welcoming the students, teachers and guests during the sensitization session, the chairman spoke extensively on the dangers of drug addiction, cultism and its potential to derail their future aspirations.

    Stressed further on how cultism and abuse of drugs has led to the prosecution of many young people, untimely death, and mental disorder, cautioning that seeking artificial solutions to problems often leads to bigger challenges.

    While speaking during the sensitization session, Tagged “War Against Cultism and Drug Abuse: Training The Trainers” Dr. Olufemi Michael from the Political Science Department, University of Ibadan, provided further insight into the growing threat of hard drugs use in schools. Cited different cases from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies(NDLEA)and the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, warning that drug abuse among students always fuelling criminal activities such as, rape, theft and violence.

    Dr. Olufemi emphasized that the campaign’s goal is not just to educate but also to empower student as peer educator because the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE has given a stern warning that any student seeing roaming or loitering around the street during the school hour will be arrested by police and dealt with severely.

    He called on parents to be more vigilant in monitoring their children’s activities, emphasizing that early intervention is the key to preventing drug addiction.

    The event had in attendance students from various public schools, Director of Egbeda L.I.E, Mrs Ilelaboye, her deputy, Mr. Alao, Mrs Ilugbaro (DESS), Mrs Falana(DDESS), teachers and other invited guests.
