The Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti State, Dare Adeleke, has commended the traditional institution in the state for condemning the alleged endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and for maintaining its neutrality on political issues.

A statement released by the traditional chieftaincy council advised caution “against alleged endorsement claims for the 2026 elections”, emphasizing their neutrality and urging all political parties to respect the council’s position and avoid politicizing its role.

Adeleke, in an interview with our reporter, stated that the pronouncement by the traditional rulers shows their dedication to peace and fairness: “Yes, I read the statement issued by the traditional rulers, it is a move in the right direction.”

He emphasized that the only way the state can achieve a free and fair election is through the neutrality of all relevant institutions: “We have reached a point in our nation where we can no longer afford to bungle elections, and we can no longer toy with the people’s votes and choices. It is rather unfortunate that a governor would, at this stage, when political awareness is at its peak; attempt to force himself on his people. It is, however, not surprising because, in a fair contest, even within his party, Oyebanji would be resoundingly defeated. Yet, the Obas’ caution is very welcome.”

“As much as this is a welcome development, it is most important that the Obas take it one step further by advising the governor to stop the brutal road tax he is imposing on Ekiti people. The people need their voices heard to end the crushing exploitation by the state government,” he advised.

Adeleke reiterated his praise for the traditional rulers for not endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
