Anxiety, fear and helplessness are all at once visible on the faces of residents of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State following the recent announcement by the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force headed by Governor Seyi Makinde that 31 confirmed cases came back positive out of which 30 were staff of an unnamed organisation in Ibadan South-West while one case was from Egbeda Local Government Area.

Investigation conducted by GOALPOACHER NEWS around Ring Road and Molete areas showed that the residents were curious to know the said organisation.

A resident who wouldn’t want his name mentioned said, “I want to appeal to Governor not to hide the identity of this organisation. This will enable us to know if it is one of the organisations we have had transactions with”

“You see, most if not all of the said employees of the organisation will be residing in our local government, we don’t want a situation where this sad situation will degenerate into a bigger problem”

Another residents who spoke with GOALPOACHER NEWS said, “I am disappointed that our amiable governor could hide the name of the organisation. Why do we like secrecy in this part of the world? She asked.

“Shutting down the organisation is not the only solution to the issue but naming the organisation will enable the residents to assist the government to identify those that have had contacts with their employees and this will halt community transmission of the pandemic.”

Recall Governor Makinde has urged members of the public to remain calm as the situation is under control.
