Fresh concerns have emerged within Ibadan’s traditional institution, as three High Chiefs, High Chief Kola Babalola (Ekaarun Olubadan of Ibadanland), High Chief Akeem Bolaji Adewoyin (Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland) and High Chief (Senator) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland), are reportedly set to be absent from the forthcoming coronation ceremony, despite earlier expectations.

The coronation, scheduled for Friday, has recently drawn heightened attention amid reports suggesting that some key figures may not participate, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the event.

Sources indicated that the situation may be connected to ongoing concerns linked to Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who is believed to be central to discussions around the exercise.

It is understood that efforts may be underway to manage sensitivities and prevent any potential complications associated with his involvement.

The ceremony, expected to formalise the elevation of the High Chiefs to beaded crown status, had been fixed for Friday, April.3, 2026.

However, the possible absence of the chiefs may introduce a new dimension to the unfolding developments.

Observers suggested the situation may have implications for relations between Governor Seyi Makinde and the traditional institution, particularly as political undertones continue to surface.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Oyo State Government nor the palace has issued an official statement confirming the development.

Analysts noted that careful handling of the matter will be essential to avoid escalating tensions, warning that the intersection of governance and traditional authority in Oyo State remained a delicate issue.
