‎Egbeda Youths Reject Olasunkanmi Babalola’s Third Term Bid, Cite Eight Years of Poor Performance & Failed Representation

Concerned youths in Egbeda State Constituency have firmly rejected any move to grant incumbent lawmaker, Olasunkanmi Babalola, a third term, citing what they describe as eight years of poor performance and failed representation.
    ‎
‎The group, in a statement on Saturday, said its position reflects the mood of many residents who believe the constituency has not witnessed the expected level of progress over the past eight years.
    ‎
‎According to them, Egbeda continues to struggle with basic development challenges.
    ‎
‎Roads remain in poor condition, public schools are still grappling with neglect, and primary healthcare centres across the area are either under-equipped or no longer functioning as expected.
    ‎
‎“These are everyday realities for our people,” one of the youths said, noting that the lack of visible impact has made it difficult to justify another term in office.
    ‎
‎They also pointed to what they described as a widening gap between the lawmaker and the people.
    ‎
‎”Engagements such as town hall meetings have been limited, leaving many residents without the opportunity to voice their concerns or hold their representative accountable.”
    ‎
‎The youths argued that representation should go beyond occupying a political seat, stressing that it must translate into measurable improvements in the lives of constituents.
    ‎
‎In their view, the last eight years have been marked more by missed opportunities than meaningful achievements.
    ‎
‎On the issue of a possible third term, the group maintained that such a move goes against the principles of fairness and democratic renewal.
    ‎
‎They warned that extending one individual’s stay in office for too long could discourage new entrants and limit the flow of fresh ideas needed to drive development.
    ‎
‎Egbeda, they said, has no shortage of capable and qualified individuals who are ready to serve and bring new energy into leadership.
    ‎
‎Allowing room for others, they added, is essential for building a more inclusive and forward-looking political system.
    ‎
‎The group emphasized that its stance is not personal but rooted in the need for accountability, better governance, and equal opportunity.
    ‎
‎They called on residents to reflect carefully on the future of the constituency as political activities begin to gather pace ahead of the next elections.
    ‎
‎The Egbeda Concerned Youths also called on the state governor, engineer Seyi Makinde, to accept their position on the matter like a father who cares for his children and his people and not standing with one against many other important people.
    ‎
‎They appealed to the PDP leaders in the constituency to see to their worries and let a new wine be pured into a new skin for the progress of the constituency
    ‎
    ‎
‎For many of the youths, the message remains clear: after eight years with little to show, Egbeda must embrace change and give new leadership a chance to deliver the progress the people have long awaited.
