Impeachment saga within the Oyo State House of Assembly appears not to have slowed down political calculations within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Governor Seyi Makinde, alongside key party stakeholders, intensifies efforts to streamline candidates through consensus arrangements across House of Assembly constituencies ahead of the next elections.
Goalpoacher News gathered that the consensus consideration in the assembly is not to further fuel the impeachment speculation or further shake the sensitive table, as party leaders and Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly move to stabilize internal structures and prevent any escalation of political tensions within the House of Assembly.
In Oyo East/Oyo West, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahaman has been endorsed by party stakeholders while Hon. Gbenga Oyekola was also endorsed by stakeholders from Atiba.
Meanwhile, Afijio is undecided at the press time.
In Akinyele, Hon. Solomon Olalere was unanimously endorsed by the party’s stakeholders. Although, the incumbent lawmaker, Olatunde Kehinde has not accepted the decision.
Hon. Lekan Abiola was also endorsed by party stakeholders. While In Egbeda, Sunkanmi Babalola was reportedly endorsed.
In Lagelu, Hon. Akintunde Olajide AKT was unanimously endorsed by the party’s stakeholders.
In Oluyole, Hon. Waheed Akintayo was endorsed by party stakeholders as other aspirants withdrew from the contest.
As at the time of filing this report, Ona-Ara state Constituency is undecided but there are indications that the Deputy Speaker may be imposed.
According to an unconfirmed report, Wale Ajala appears as the consensus candidate from the constituency.
To this end, Governor Makinde and party leaders continue to navigate internal tensions and align interests across constituencies despite the lingering political tension following the impeachment saga within the Assembly.
