Prominent Ibadan traditional Chiefs and Political Leaders, Mogaji Abass Oloko and Mogaji Ademola Oladosu, have come out strongly in defense of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, rejecting criticisms trailing his nomination as Minister-designate.
    ‎
‎In a statement jointly issued on Sunday and made available to journalists, the Mogajis described the wave of opposition as baseless and rooted in ignorance, insisting that Tegbe’s qualifications, experience, and background clearly justify his selection for national service.
    ‎
‎“Those criticizing this appointment should desist from such actions, as they are driven by ignorance and a lack of understanding of his capacity and contributions,” the chiefs stated.
    ‎
‎They warned critics to refrain from what they termed unwarranted attacks, stressing that such reactions fail to reflect a proper understanding of Tegbe’s professional achievements and contributions to governance and economic development.
    ‎
‎According to the chiefs, Tegbe’s emergence is grounded in merit, noting that his track record as a technocrat and administrator places him in a strong position to deliver on critical national assignments.
    ‎
‎They emphasized that he is not new to leadership, recalling that he was once the preferred gubernatorial candidate of the late former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, before political developments altered the process.
    ‎
‎“He was the choice of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi based on competence and vision before external influences changed the course of events,” they added.
    ‎
‎The Mogajis also addressed concerns about his political journey, explaining that his brief association with another political platform in 2022 was driven by his desire to serve, and that he has since returned to the progressive fold.
    ‎
‎Describing him as a true son of Ibadanland and a respected traditional chief, they maintained that Tegbe’s roots and longstanding connection to the community further reinforce his suitability for public office.
    ‎
‎They further highlighted his extensive experience in both local and international institutions, including his roles in strategic advisory and economic reforms across Africa and beyond.
    ‎
‎The traditional leaders argued that such exposure equips him with the insight needed to tackle complex challenges, particularly in sectors critical to national development.
    ‎
‎“We believe his experience in governance, business strategy, and international partnerships positions him to deliver meaningful reforms if given the opportunity,” the statement noted.
    ‎
‎They also pointed to his academic and professional pedigree, including his first-class degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and fellowships in top professional bodies, as further evidence of his competence.
    ‎
‎The chiefs maintained that beyond politics, Tegbe has consistently demonstrated commitment to development initiatives and institutional reforms across sectors.
    ‎
‎They concluded by reiterating that criticism of Tegbe’s nomination is misplaced, urging detractors to acknowledge competence and allow him the opportunity to prove his capacity in office, rather than engaging in unproductive attacks.
