Ilaji Hotels & Sports Resort, Akanran, Ibadan, came alive with an unprecedented gathering of over 50,000 Muslim faithful, Islamic scholars, Chief Imams, traditional rulers, political leaders, and distinguished personalities who converged to celebrate Hijrah 1448 AH.



The epoch-making event, hosted by the Okanlomo Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, was marked by an atmosphere of faith, unity, peace, gratitude, and fervent prayers to Almighty Allah.



The historic Islamic gathering was held under the spiritual leadership of the Grand Chief Imam of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, and President of the League of Imams and Alfas of Oyo State, His Eminence, Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere, with all Zonal Chief Imams across Oyo State in attendance, further underscoring the unity of the Muslim Ummah.


In his keynote sermon, Sheikh Alawaye highlighted the profound lessons of Hijrah, describing it as a symbol of sacrifice, perseverance, righteousness, unity, and unwavering faith in Allah. He called on Muslims to remain steadfast in promoting peace, justice, tolerance, and responsible citizenship while offering prayers for Nigeria’s continued progress and stability.
Among the dignitaries present were the APC Governorship Candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District; the Accord Governorship Candidate, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat; Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and APC Senatorial Candidate; the APC Oyo South Senatorial Candidate; Hon. Aderemi Oseni, representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency; Hon. Shina Alabi; Hon. Faruk Arisekola; Hon. Abdulganiy GRA; the Asiwaju Adini of Oyo State, Alhaji Mutiullahi Oladejo Onimalu; the Turaki Adini of Oyo State, Engr. Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem Mogaji Adanla, Mogaji Abass Oloko alongside several other respected political, religious, traditional, and community leaders across Oyo State.
The celebration also witnessed the active participation of major Islamic organizations, including the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), NASFAT, QUAREEB, and the League of Imams and Alfas of Oyo State, reflecting the remarkable unity and solidarity of the Muslim community.
Special prayers were offered for the continued wisdom, sound health, and successful leadership of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The congregation also prayed for lasting peace, security, economic prosperity, and national development, as well as sustained progress and stability in Oyo State.
What began as a solemn gathering of prayers, reflection, and thanksgiving later blossomed into a joyous celebration of the Islamic New Year, with thousands expressing gratitude to Allah through brotherhood, cultural displays, and renewed hope for a brighter future.
The massive turnout once again demonstrated the strength, harmony, and peaceful coexistence of the Muslim Ummah while reinforcing Ilaji Hotels & Sports Resort as one of Nigeria’s foremost destinations for hosting religious, cultural, and events of national significance.
As Muslims across the world usher in the New Islamic Year, participants prayed that Allah (SWT) would accept their supplications, bless Nigeria with enduring peace, grant President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wisdom and divine guidance, and usher Oyo State into greater progress, security, unity, and prosperity.
