The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women has congratulated renowned businessman and philanthropist, Chief (Engr.) Dotun Sanusi, popularly known as Okanlomo Oodua, on his installation as the Gbonka of Ibadanland, describing the honour as a well-deserved recognition of his unwavering commitment to the development of Ibadanland and the Yoruba nation.
    ‎
‎In a congratulatory message signed by the leader of APC Women in Oyo State, Dr. Adekemi Opatunde, the group said Sanusi’s emergence as Gbonka reflects his enduring legacy of service, philanthropy and dedication to the welfare of the people.
    ‎
‎The women described the Gbonka title as one of the most revered traditional honours in Ibadan history, noting that it symbolises courage, strength, leadership and the defence of the people.
    ‎
‎According to the statement, the title, which historically means “one who breaks and scatters the enemy,” is far more than a ceremonial honour, but a call to selfless leadership, protection of the people and unwavering service to society.
    ‎
‎Dr. Opatunde stated that Sanusi has consistently demonstrated the qualities associated with the prestigious title through his numerous humanitarian interventions and contributions to the socio-economic development of Ibadanland and Yorubaland.
    ‎
‎She noted that the business mogul has continued to touch lives by supporting the less privileged, empowering youths and women, creating employment opportunities and investing in initiatives that have brought hope to many families across the state.
    ‎
‎”The title Gbonka is not an ordinary title. Historically, it means ‘one who breaks and scatters the enemy.’ It is a title of war, courage, strength and defence. A Gbonka is the shield of the people and the strong arm of the throne. To be called Gbonka is to be called to leadership, protection and service,” she said.
    ‎
‎Dr. Opatunde further stated that Sanusi has been “breaking barriers for the needy, scattering poverty through his generosity and defending the welfare of our people,” adding that his philanthropic record and commitment to community development make him a worthy recipient of the revered traditional title.
    ‎
‎She expressed confidence that his installation would usher in greater peace, unity and development for Ibadanland, while urging him to continue his exemplary service to humanity.
    ‎
‎”We pray that Almighty God will grant you long life, sound health and wisdom to wear this honour with pride and to enjoy the full rewards of your benevolence. May your reign as Gbonka bring more peace, development and unity to Ibadanland,” she added.
    ‎
‎The APC Women leader reaffirmed the group’s support and goodwill towards the newly installed Gbonka of Ibadanland, stressing that his emergence has brought pride not only to Ibadanland but also to Oyo State.
    ‎
‎She wished him a successful and impactful reign, expressing optimism that his leadership and humanitarian ideals would continue to inspire generations.
    ‎
    ‎
    ‎Signed,
    ‎Adekemi Opatunde (PhD)
