Leaders of the Southwest Kwakwasiyah faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have joined the JDS Movement led by the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi.

The group made its position known during a meeting with Chief Sanusi at the Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan, where it declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s governorship aspiration in Oyo State and other APC candidates across the Southwest.

The delegation was led by Hon. Anthony Makinde Sunday from Oyo, Chief (Mrs.) Veronica “Ronnie” Dikko-Kila from Lagos, Pastor Peter Olagookun from Ondo and Chief Ade Ayeni from Ekiti.

Receiving the group, Chief Sanusi welcomed the political realignment, saying his movement remained open to people committed to development and service.

“Our doors are open to everybody who believes in service, development and responsible leadership. We are building a movement around the people, ideas and the future of our communities.”

He urged the new members to work for peaceful political engagement and grassroots development.

“Politics is ultimately about the people. When people from different political backgrounds come together because they believe in a common purpose, we should welcome that development.”

The delegation was received on behalf of Senator Yunus Akintunde, APC candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, by former Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Barrister Kazeem Adedeji.

Adedeji assured the decampees that they had entered a political family aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political vision, describing Chief Sanusi as a strong representative of the Tinubu political project.

“The Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi you are meeting today is a strong representative of the political vision and leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. By coming here and identifying with this movement, you are in safe hands.”

He added: “We welcome you wholeheartedly. Your experience, networks and grassroots structures will be valuable as we work together towards 2027.”

The Southwest leaders pledged to mobilise their structures in support of Tinubu, Alli and other APC candidates across the region.

The development comes as political consultations and grassroots mobilisation intensify across the Southwest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
