JUST IN: Youths Stage END SARS Protest in Ibadan
Some youths in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on Friday, staged a protest, tagged END SARS rally, demanding an end to police brutality, harassment, and alleged killings.
GOALPOACHER NEWS correspondent, who monitored the protest, reports that the youths marched from the front gate of the University of Ibadan through Bodija market to the Oyo state police command, Eleyele, and stopped at the state Secretariat, Agodi, ventilating their agitation for the scrapping of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.
The protesters bemoaned that SARS officials see virtually every youth as an Internet fraudster and are quick to indiscriminately stop and search them while harassing and brutalizing them.
While addressing the protesters, the Oyo state commissioner of police, CP Joe Enwonwu, assured the youths that necessary measures have been put in place to check the excesses of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, noting that two new monitoring units have been established to review SARS operation in the state.
Some of the placards which the protesters used to drive home their messages had inscriptions that included: End Police Brutality; We are Nigerians, We are Innocent; Being a Youth is not a criminal offense; Stop Killing Us.
