Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade set to commence 21-day traditional rites

 

The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade is set to commence 21-day traditional rites as the new monarch of the ancient Yoruba town.

Recall that Prince Owoade was announced on Friday by the state government as the Alaafin-elect, to succeed the 44th Alaafin Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed on two years ago.

Tribune Online reports that the new monarch received a certificate and staff of office from the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday at the Agodi Government House in Ibadan, the state capital.

The ceremony had in attendance the kingmakers otherwise known as Oyomesi, top government functionaries and eminent personalities from the state.

After the presentation, the new Alaafin headed to Oyo town where he is expected to be received by the sons and daughters of Oyo town and commence his traditional rites for ascension to the throne.
