There was jubilation in some parts of Ibadan this Friday, as Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde paid civil servants and retirees their April salaries despite obvious economic meltdown the state and country are experiencing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Investigation by GOALPOACHER NEWS around some markets in Ibadan major markets like Bodija, Gbagi, Ogunpa, Oje and Oja aba markets, witnessed large turn out of workers who came to buy food items over the possible lockdown of the state to enable the state government to distribute relief materials to the poorest of the poor.
Some of the traders who spoke with GOALPOACHER NEWS, expressed their gratitude to God and Governor Makinde for making workers welfare his priority.
Some of the civil servants who didn’t want their names mentioned were thankful to the Government for being sensitive and responsive to their plight. Some of the Muslim faithful said the payment of this month’s salary would enable them to stock pile food items for the Ramadan fast which started today.
