Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has signed into law, the bill establishing Oyo State Mobilization Agency For Socio-Economic Development.
While signing the bill into law, Governor Makinde said the law will shape the future of Oyo State.
He commended members of the Oyo State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill and more importantly, the collaboration between the executive arm and legislative arm.
“OMASED is an agency which will serve as rallying point for government ministries and parastatals.
“We are at a point in Oyo State and the nation where the development must be prioritized.
“When we talk about economic development is the solution to our major challenges.
“We have to prioritize production, we must be productive, we have to broaden our productive rate.
“We must create framework to harness our potential and this agency is a key framework for our development.
“The agency will lead in the area of communication and advocacy and our strongest resource is the people, when we educate and train our people, that’s the best development they can be given.
“OMASED will play a big role in the mobilization and sensitization of our people. We’ll approach a carrot and stick approach in the full implementation of rule of law.”
The Governor announced the appointment of Dr Morohunkola Thomas his Special Adviser on Socioeconomic Development as the Director-General of the agency.
In his remarks, a former Minister of Information and Orientation, Prof Jerry Gana who was a special guest, commended Governor Seyi for setting the pace for others in county. He noted that the establishment of OMASED would aid the development of the people and the economic development of Oyo.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor, former Deputy Governor, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Speaker Oyo House of Assembly, top government functionaries, council of elders, traditional rulers among others.
