Cholera outbreak: Be Cautious of What You Eat, Drink to Prevent Cholera – Arapaja Urges Oyo Residents

The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja has cautioned residents of Oyo State to be mindful of what they consume especially rainwater during the ongoing rainy season to prevent cholera spread.

Amb. Arapaja stressed that this warning became imperative in view of the fact that there are reported cases that the rainy season has already led to cholera cases in some states across Nigeria.

This was contained in a release issued by Amb. Arapaja but made available to newsmen through his Personal Assistant, Bamitale Ibrahim, saying the rainy season increases the risk of cholera, and therefore residents must take preventive measures to ensure their safety.

Amb. Arapaja advised careful examination of food and water intake, particularly vegetables, fruits, and drinking water.

While emphasizing the importance of washing vegetables and fruits thoroughly before consumption and seeking medical attention immediately if symptoms occur, Amb. Arapaja commended the state government under Gov. Seyi Makinde led administration for its commitment to prioritizing public health in the state.

“With the World Health Organization reporting a global increase in cholera cases and fatalities in 2024, residents are encouraged to take precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.” He said.
