Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, has addressed the alarming spread of cholera within the country, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures to safeguard public health.
Hon. Akinleye sensitize constituents on the nature of the cholera outbreak in Nigeria, explaining that the disease is spread through contaminated water or food. It is often prevalent in areas with inadequate water treatment, poor sanitation, and insufficient hygiene practices. Cholera can cause severe watery diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration, making it a serious public health concern.
He highlighted the critical need for improved sanitation practices and stressed that maintaining proper hygiene, such as regular hand washing with soap and safe food preparation, is essential in curbing the outbreak.
Furthermore, he urged residents to ensure access to clean drinking water. He advised boiling water or using water purification tablets to prevent waterborne diseases. The Chairman also called on health sectors and community leaders to promote awareness and support public health initiatives.
The chairman however reassured constituents of his commitment to tackling the cholera outbreak and called for community cooperation. He urged everyone to stay vigilant and proactive in the fight against cholera.
