Dr. Akin Fagbemi Conducts Surprise Visit to Fiditi General Hospital

The Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, visited the General Hospital in Fiditi unexpectedly on August 13, 2024.

The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the hospital’s current conditions and operations.

Dr. Fagbemi praised the hospital’s cleanliness, stating, “It is the cleanest hospital I have encountered in my travels across Oyo State.”

He also highlighted the efforts of the Fiditi Strategic Development Initiative, recognising their contributions of a solar energy system that has provided continuous electricity for four years and functional boreholes that ensure a reliable water supply.

However, the chairman noted several critical challenges facing the hospital.

According to him, patients turnout has been low, which was said, was largely due to the facility’s distance from the town and poor road conditions that include sacrifices and thick vegetation along the route.

Additionally, Dr. Fagbemi pointed out significant infrastructure issues, including broken ceilings and termite infestations that could jeopardize the quality of care.

He expressed concern over staffing shortages affecting hospital operations and mentioned that some mattresses were without covers.

In response to these observations, Dr. Fagbemi urged the hospital management to take immediate action to address the termite problem and improve mattress conditions.

He also emphasised the need for community engagement to encourage greater use of the hospital’s services.

Concluding his visit, Dr. Fagbemi expressed optimism about the hospital’s potential for improvement, stating, “With the right support and commitment, we can transform this hospital into a beacon of healthcare excellence in Oyo State.”

His visit marks a significant step in addressing the urgent needs of Fiditi General Hospital and improving healthcare access for the local community.
