The Olasole of Lasole Kingdom, HRM Oba Dairo Jacob Olutayo Fadairo I, has emphasised the importance of education and sports in shaping the future of Nigeria’s youths.
In a heartfelt address to over 2,000 children participating in the 2024 Basic Education Schools Sports Competition (BESS), organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), which brought together participants from all 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, a week long of spirited competition and camaraderie, the monarch who recently retired as Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in 2023, urged the children to embrace both their academic pursuits and athletic endeavors.
He highlighted the vital role that education plays in personal and national development, stating, “Education is the foundation upon which we build our dreams and aspirations.
It is essential not only for individual success but also for the progress of our nation.”
The monarch also spoke passionately about the benefits of sports, encouraging the children to see it as a pathway to discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
“Sports teach us important life skills. Through sports, we learn to work together, respect others, and strive for excellence.”
