The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede on Thursday, paid an unscheduled visit to the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba which is being remodelled to meet international standard.
During the cause of the visit, the Commissioner inspects the level of work which is being done. The contractor in charge of the project, while taking the Commissioner round the facility, made it known that the track model to be used is BSW because of its sustainability and also because it fits well for tropical Africa. The contractor said its lifespan covers 15years with 5years warranty.
The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction that the remodelling being done by the State Government through Public Private Partnership will definitely serve as a catalyst for the State’s economic growth as the new facilities being put in place invariably contains amenities that offer additional revenue sources. He also said that the remodelling will provide the State’s athletes the avenue to exhibit their potentials.
Sports all over the world is an economy with huge potential where the private sector and the government generate huge revenue. So, the interest of the State government to develop the sports sector in partnership with the private sector is an exciting and a welcome development.
