FCT Tennis Association Appoints Makinde’s Ally, Hon. Rita Orji as New Caretaker Committee Member

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has officially engaged Hon. (Barr.) Rita Orji as a member of the Caretaker Committee for the FCT Tennis Association.

The appointment came as part of a strategic move to ensure the continuous development of sports in the region following the dissolution of previous sports boards in October 2023.

The FCT Sports Department, under the Social Development Secretariat, expressed its appreciation for Orji’s significant contributions to sports development both within the FCT and beyond.

The new committee is tasked with managing the affairs of the association for a term of one year, starting September 1, 2024, and concluding on August 31, 2025.

In an effort to enhance the effectiveness of the Caretaker Committee, the board will have the ability to co-opt two additional members whose expertise may be beneficial to the advancement of tennis in the FCT.

The appointment reflects the FCT Administration’s commitment to maintaining momentum in sports development while awaiting the reconstitution of the sports associations’ boards.

The Hon. Minister of the FCT has, however, conveyed warm regards to Orji and expressed confidence in her leadership abilities.

This initiative aims to fill the leadership void and ensure that sports activities continue to thrive in the capital region, fostering a robust sporting culture and engaging more youth in tennis and other sports.
