Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed that no one will dictate his political agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made this assertion on Monday while receiving members of the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), who paid him a solidarity visit at the Governor’s Office where they urged him to contest for the Presidency in 2027.
Makinde emphasized that his political future remains a personal decision, pledged to build institutions that will guarantee continuity of good governance beyond his administration.
He assured that his administration would continue to look after their well-being noted that his priority remains development of the Pacesetter State.
Makinde said he would be distracted by calls from various quarters urging him to run for Presidency.
Highlighting the paradox of Nigeria’s immense natural wealth and widespread poverty, Govenor Makinde asserted that natural resources alone cannot deliver prosperity, adding that people must be mobilized, invest in skills and knowledge, and prioritize intensive production.
Governor Makinde also urged the students to cooperate with the state government and encouraged them to give any suggestions that could help improve existing initiatives, emphasizing the importance of closing remaining gaps.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Students’ Affairs, Hon Victor Olojede, and the National President of the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), Ibrahim Alarape, commended the Governor for his student-friendly policies.
They praised Governor Makinde’s unwavering support for the students’ community and pledged to reciprocate his fatherly care with exceptional academic performance while urging him to heed the clarion call to serve the country in 2027.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor and other top government functionaries.
