The Oyo State Government is on the verge of a transformative milestone with the near completion of the 11 MW Independent Power Project (IPP), awarded to Elektron Energy.
This project, which is expected to become operationalized soon, is set to significantly enhance the state’s energy landscape.
The 11 MW IPP consists of a robust 10 MW gas-fired power generation system coupled with a 1 MW photovoltaic (PV) solar solution.
The gas required for the project will be supplied through the ongoing Shell Gas Pipeline project, ensuring a reliable and efficient energy source for the state.
Once operational, the IPP will serve as the backbone of the Light Up Oyo project, providing essential power to various infrastructural facilities across the region.
This initiative reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to sustainable energy development and economic growth in Oyo State.
In addition to the IPP, the Oyo State Government is implementing a range of strategies to achieve energy sufficiency, including the installation of solar-hybrid mini-grids in rural communities.
The establishment of the Oyo State-Shell Nigeria Gas Limited Pressure Reduction & Metering Station (PRMS) will further enhance the local energy supply chain.
The introduction of the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law marks a significant step toward improving electricity supply and attracting investments into the energy sector, reinforcing the government’s proactive approach.
This ambitious vision is being expertly guided by Barrister Seun Ashamu, the Honorable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.
He has emphasised the administration’s dedication to creating a sustainable energy future for all residents of Oyo State.
“Our goal is to ensure that every community has access to reliable power,” Ashamu stated, highlighting the administration’s commitment to inclusive energy solutions.
With the nearing completion of the 11 MW Independent Power Project, Oyo State is poised to set a new standard in energy provision, promising to enhance the quality of life for its residents and drive economic development in the state.
