Ibadan Southeast LG Boss, Hon Alawode Hosts Featherweight Boxing Champion, Oyekola (Scorpion)

Eulogizes Azeez Kure

The Ibadan-born Nigerian boxer, Ridwan Oyekola Scorpion, the featherweight champion recently paid courtesy visit to Ibadan South East Local Government amidst admiration from many people.

Oyekola Scorpion was received with enthusiasm by the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Alawode, the Legislative arm and Management staff.

In his welcome speech, Hon. Alawode said it was an honour to receive the world Boxing Champion who has made us proud as an Indigene of Oyo State.

“We are proud of you for registering our country’s name on the global stage” Alawode reiterates.
The council boss who believes that the Super Featherweight champion realised his dream after many years of focus and discipline, enjoined all youths to diligently follow their passion to the point of global recognition and celebration.

According to Oyekola, only God knows the path everybody will take to be successful in life. Scorpion revealed his rough journey before he becomes the world boxing champion. He hawked drugs, then, poultry and was once a commercial motorcycle operator before God answered his prayer and made him a world boxing Champion.

“I got into ‘okada’ (commercial motorcycle) business in Ibadan. I used to ply Gate-Bere-Molete to Challenge-Orita-New Garage-Podo routes. It was when I met my promoter Olusola Ayodele that I stopped riding ‘okada’ and he took care of me to get to this level.” He said.

Speaking further, the world Boxing Champion acknowledged the support given him by Hon. Azeez Akinpelu Kure, the Majority Leader of the Legislative arm of the council while he was struggling to make it to the top. He affirmed that Hon. Kure usually gives him money, buy clothes for him and support him with everything within his capacity then when the road was rough and these contributed to his success today.

The Japan-based boxer has continued to dominate headlines in the Japanese boxing circle. He has become the toast of boxing fans in Japan and won all his fights since he relocated to Japan in October 2022.
