Ibadan Southeast LG Chairman, Alawode Urges Protesters to Remain Peaceful Amid Nationwide Unrest

In the wake of growing nationwide protests sparked by worsening economic conditions and rising food insecurity, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Alawode, has called on protesters in Oyo State and across the local government area to maintain a peaceful stance.

The nationwide protests, which have been fueled by widespread discontent over the country’s deteriorating economy and the struggles faced by many citizens, have raised concerns over potential unrest and disruptions.

Addressing the situation, Hon. Alawode emphasised the importance of upholding the democratic principles of peaceful assembly and expression.

“I fully understand and empathize with the legitimate grievances of our people. However, it is crucial that we channel our frustrations through lawful and peaceful means to ensure our voices are heard and our demands are met effectively,” he said.

The Chairman urged the residents of Ibadan South LG and the broader Oyo State to refrain from engaging in any violent or disruptive activities during the protests.

He stressed the need to maintain the integrity of the democratic process and avoid actions that could lead to chaos or confrontation with law enforcement agencies.

“Our collective goal should be to peacefully advocate for the necessary reforms and support that our communities desperately need. Violence and destruction will only serve to undermine our cause and distract from the critical issues at hand.”

However, the local government authorities have assured residents that they will closely monitor the situation and provide ongoing updates to ensure the safety and well-being of the community during the nationwide protests.
