A traditional ruler who is also a veteran journalist, Baale Kayode Bamiduro has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of urgency do a review and adjustments of his government’s policies to address the current hardship being faced by the citizens, promising to join future protests against the increase.
The Baale of Isajin land Ibadan in Egbeda Local Government made this appeal in a press statement issued in Ibadan in reaction to the recent fuel price increase announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
It would be recalled that the Management of NNPCL recently announced an increase in the petroleum price which has brought serious and unprecedented agonies to the entire populace as people now buy the product between 1,000 and 1,300 naira per litre of petrol.
Baale Bamiduro lamented why President Bola Tinubu would endorse a price increase from 198 Naira per litre when he came in to 897 Naira but now selling for as high as 1,300 Naira within 14 months of his presidency in the name of subsidy removal.
According to the Community Head Tinubu should not take Nigerians for granted and should guide against anything that could throw the Nation in to unnecessary chaos reminding him that the country can no longer afford crisis at this point in time.
He added that when the very people that voted him to power are beginning to lament and even cursing him, he should know that it’s time to reappraise himself and his government.
Baale Bamiduro counsels further that Tinubu should not give chance to his opposition who he said are always ready to attack his government at any given opportunity, saying the current petroleum price increase can not be justified and should therefore do something to reduce it by about 60 percent.
Finally, he advised that if reversing the subsidy regime is the option with Dangote Refinery coming in to operation which would make it more accountable then Tinubu should consider it so that people can get relieved from the current hardship.
