As Nigeria marks her annual Independence Day anniversary on October 1, Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has warned Nigerians to stop prophesying negativities on the country.
Makinde gave the admonition during the 63rd Independence Celebration Walk, organized in commemoration of this year’s Independence day celebration by the state government.
Makinde who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, on Thursday, led top Government functionaries and other members of the public in a walk to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary.
The 2.5-kilometre walk took off from the Government House Arcade, Agodi Ibadan, exactly 8am, while the participants walked through Queen Elizabeth Road, Total Garden, and Oritamefa – Secretariat road.
The event was spiced up with Moral Songs from Members of Man O’ War Oyo state command, and drums from the band members of Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA)
Addressing news men at the end of the Walk which terminated at the frontage of the Governor’s Office, Agodi Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde, expressed optimism that the country shall be great, charging Nigerians to always put the Nation first in their daily activities rather than focusing on its negative sides.
The state governor also noted that the special Walk was necessary, as it portrayed the strength, doggedness and the ability of Nigerians to surmount the country’s challenges.
Among the participants of the 61st Independence anniversary walk, were the Chief of Staff to the state Governor, the Head of Service Mrs Olubumi Oni, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and some Political appointees.
