JUST IN: Makinde, Oyinlola, Other Delegates Arrive Oshogbo, Fayose, Olafeso Missing

The South-West Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scheduled to hold this Monday has commenced in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun state.

PDP delegates are currently undergoing a thorough accreditation in a bid to cast their votes and install either Dr. Edward Olafeso who has the backing of former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, or Taofeeq Arapaja, a former Oyo State deputy governor who has the support of Governor Seyi Makinde as the chairman of the PDP in the Southwest region.

Governor Seyi Makinde, while addressing newsmen at the venue of the congress in Osogbo, expressed satisfaction at the ongoing South-West Zonal Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He urged all the delegates to be fair and transparent with their votes when voting commences. His words:

“The process so far is going well. Before I was allowed to come in, I had to show them my driver’s license. So, we know quite well that there won’t be ghost voters here today.”

“Accreditation is starting almost two hours behind schedule. I really feel like it is better late and thorough than for them to rush through it and we have challenges.”

“The message is very simple; this is a zonal congress but it has ramifications for our party at the national level. If we get it right at the South West, then, we know that the future will be bright for the PDP at the national level.

“This is not just coming to elect our zonal official but we are here to put forward our best and they will in turn assist us at the federal level.”

It would be recalled that the southwest zonal congress had earlier been slated to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State but the change of venue became necessary as a result of the misunderstanding between the former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

However, the PDP national leadership has assured of working with all stakeholders concerned to achieve a seamless and unifying congress of the party in the South West region.

Delegates from Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos and Ekiti are currently being accredited while Ayodele Fayose, Eddy Olafeso, Adebutu and Adeleke are still expected at the venue.
