As the Ondo State Government is making efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state, the state has recorded another index case of the disease.

This came barely a week after an army officer, who just returned from India, was tested positive to the deadly disease. He was said to have been transferred to the treatment centre.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, confirmed the development to our correspondent in Akure, the state capital on Friday.

He said, ” Yes I can confirmed that, the person was discovered in Akure here. He has been on admission since yesterday ( Thursday).

Adegbenro added that the patient had been transferred to the state Infectious Disease Hospital, along Igbatoro road, Akure and “he has been responding to treatment.”

Similarly, a health worker, on condition of anonymity said the patient was discovered in Ijoka Area of Akure and the person had been transferred to the state IDH.

He said “Pls people lets be careful and take every precautionary step, a second case of COVID-19 has been reported in Akure and I got an information that the person has been admitted at the infectious disease centre along igbatoro road.”

The health commissioner also appealed to the people of the state to always adhere strictly to all the directives of the government on the preventive measures, which include regular handwashing, staying away from large gathering among others .

He added that the government was not relenting in its efforts to ensure the disease was contained in the state.

You would recall the state government had lifted the ban on social gathering to allow Christians attend Easter service on Sunday. With this latest development, however, it is left for the state government to review its earlier decision to allow Christians to worship at various churches on Easter Sunday.
