Leaders of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has pledged their continued loyalty to the leader of the party in the South West and Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
The PDP leaders made the disclosure on Saturday after a stakeholders’ meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde, at the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The leaders who spoke against the backdrop of the recent leadership crisis between the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Governor Seyi Makinde affirmed that the Oyo State Governor remains the undisputed leader of the party in the region.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, a former House of Representatives member, Hon Rita Orji said leaders of the party in Lagos were in Ibadan to express their gratitude to Makinde for providing purposeful leadership for the party and more importantly, to pledge their total loyalty to his leadership. Her words: “we came to thank our Governor for standing by the party. More importantly, we came to pledge our total loyalty to him as the leader of the party in the South West.”
“We resolved to move ahead as a united party irrespective of any rancour and to move the party forward ahead of future elections.”
On his part, the Caretaker Zonal Chairman of the party, Dayo Ogungbenro affirmed that Governor Makinde remains the undisputed leader of the party in the zone.
Ogungbenro called on other leaders like Ayodele Fayose and others to rally round Makinde with the view to forming a formidable party for future elections.
The meeting had in attendance some members of the State Working Committee led by the Lagos State Deputy Chairman, Hon Welly Hassan while the party chairman in the state, Hon Adedeji Doherty who belongs to the Fayose’s camp and others were absent. Other notable leaders who attended the meeting include: Prince Muiz Dosumu – State secretary, Alhji Ganiyu Taofeek- state publicity Secretary, Alhaji Samsudeen Arobieke – state treasurer, Barrister Muyideen Rahim – State legal advisor, Nurudeen Adewale – Ex-officio, Malomo Adelabi – Ex-officio and Princess Brenda Ify Esokawu , Coordinator PR8G Lagos.
