Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Wednesday commissioned a multimillion naira fish feeds manufacturing plant belonging to Skretting Nigeria limited at kilometres 17, Ibadan-Ife Road, Olopomeji village, Ibadan, Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, congratulated the management of the company for a successful completion of the multimillion naira, 125,000 metric tonnes capacity fish feeds plant.
According to Governor Makinde, citing of the plant in Ibadan came at the best of time when the need to ensure and guarantee food security and increased production became imperative towards meeting the ever increasing human needs for animal protein in our society.
“Let me at this juncture commend the Management of Skretting Nigeria Limited, a world-class manufacturer of feeds(Fish and Animals) who started its operations in Ibadan in 2014 and growing the company to an internationally recognised standards with a production capacity of 125,000 metric tons per annum plant in Oyo State. These will in no small measure go a long way at making feeds available at affordable prices to our farmers, thereby ameliorating the challenge of high cost of feeds as presently being experienced by our farmers”.
“The State Government also wish to congratulate the Company on the maintenance of the integrity of the fish feed products manufactured by the company since inception as the quality, potency, and excellent performance is maintained and never at any time compromised.
“This necessitated the patronage of your products by the State Government by purchasing 3000 bags of fish feeds for 1000 fish farmers under the State Government Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) across the 33 Local Government Areas to bring down the prices of fish in the State”
The Commissioning of the fish feeds plant, the biggest in Nigeria was witnessed by the Deputy Ambassador of Netherlands, Leonie van der Stijl, Representative of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Others are representatives of Olubadan Designate, the CEO of the Company, Mrs Seyi Adeleke-Ige, father of the late founder of the Company, Pa Orgi Alakija and his grandson, Carl, dignitaries from Netherlands, Egypt, Cote d’ivorie, fish farmers and many stakeholders in feeds mill business.
