In a meeting with the state’s health workers in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde, has emphasised the importance of dialogue and pledged continuous support for the healthcare sector.
The meeting was attended by a delegation from the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Oyo state chapter, led by the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board (OYSHMB), Dr. Akin Fagbemi.
During the meeting, the NANNM state council chairman, Comrade Samuel Adeyemi, highlighted the governor’s significant contributions to the health sector since his inauguration in May 2019.
Adeyemi also addressed the eight-point agitations and issues that had previously led to a strike action, which had since been largely resolved through the governor’s intervention.
In his response, Governor Makinde reiterated that Oyo state belongs to all citizens and emphasized the need for a round-table discussion rather than confrontation through strikes.
He pledged continuous support for the state’s health workers and promised to address the details of the eight-point agitations.
The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi; the OYSHMB Chairman, Dr. Akin Fagbemi and the OYSHMB Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anifat Ibrahim.
On the NANNM side, the vice-chairman, Comrade O. Adeleke, and the financial secretary, Comrade Y. Oyewale, were present.
