Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has restated his resolve to ensure economic and financial measures were put in place in ameliorating the sufferings of retired officers and pensioners in the state. The Governor reaffirmed this during a presentation of cheques to 2013 retirees in the state at the Government House,Agodi,Secretariat.

Makinde expressed displeasure that the previous administration left a debt backlog of unpaid gratuity to the tune of about twenty six billion naira, but he would not relent in taking care of the welfare of retirees, hence the increase of monthly release of gratuity from hundred million to one hundred and eighty million

The Governor explained that despite meagre resources in the state, he was determined to bring relief to the entire workforce in the state and its senior citizens by reversing the trend.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, the executive secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioner (NUP), Oyo state chapter, comrade Olusegun Abatan acknowledged Governor Seyi Makinde’s responsive disposition to pensioners in the state and appealed for pension harmonization, upward review of gratuities of retired Primary School teachers and Local Government pensioners amongst some other demands.

Earlier in his welcome address, the commissioner for establishment and training, Professor Daud Sangodoyin said over eighty two retirees benefitted from the current disbursement.
