The Minister of solid minerals development, Dele Alake on Thursday, hosted AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Umar Bago and Seyi Makinde, governors of Kwara, Niger and Oyo states, respectively in his office. The Cable reports.
Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Umar Bago, governor of Niger state, said issues of revalidating licenses given to mining companies who have gone out of their scope as well as security challenges faced by operators were discussed at the meeting.
On his part Alake said the federal government is committed to sanitising mining operations in the country and ensuring adequate security.
“We are moving forward to sanitise mining operations in Nigeria to ensure adequate security of lives, properties, and operating environment,” Alake said.
“The devastation caused by security breaches has been discussed exhaustively and we are resolving all of these to ensure the objective of rapid development of the mining sector is achieved in the shortest time possible. “
