Oluyole LG Chair, Olatunji To Renovate Legislative Building Abandoned For Years by Predecessors

 

The executive chairman of Oluyole local government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji has ordered immediate and comprehensive assessment of the council’s legislative building with plans to commence renovation earnestly.

The Council boss made the declaration on Friday shortly after officially inaugurating the 10 members of Oluyole legislature at Idi-Ayunre, the LG Secretariat.

Olatunji lamented over the state of the legislative building describing it as an eyesore unbefitting of human habitation for any reason.

Consequently, Olatunji directed the department of works to immediately carry out a comprehensive assessment of the facility and come up with recommendations and cost implication for its renovation.

Investigation revealed after an on the spot assessment that the legislative building has been locked up for years, thereby, depriving the local government Councilors access into the facility to carry out their statutory legislative business.

He emphasized the importance of providing a conducive environment for legislative activities to thrive, stressing the role of the legislature to governance as critical and pivotal in any democratic setting.

He assured that the situation in the LG has been duly communicated to the Commissioner for local government, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, who has also given his nod and assurances of his support.

He emphasized his resolve and commitment to forge a formidable collaboration and synergy with the legislative arm in Oluyole to drive his grassroots economic and infrastructural development agenda.

“As we are all aware, this legislative building has been locked up for some years due to its dilapidation and as such legislative business has been crippled thereby denying our people across the 10 wards of representation.

“I have directed the department of works to as matter of urgency carry out a holistic assessment of the building and come up with recommendations that will guide us in its full renovation.

“I want to assure you that we have learned and will continue to learn the rudiments of leadership and good governance under our political father and mentor, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde in order to replicate what he’s doing at the state level at the grassroots.

“While the entire process of assessment and renovation begins, we will prepare an alternative means for legislative business to go on because of the critical role the institution plays in a democracy while assuring the councilors of my commitment to their welfare and well-being.” Olatunji said.
