A road accident in the Eleyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, has claimed the life of a middle-aged woman, leaving several others injured.
According to Punch, the victims are currently receiving medical attention at undisclosed hospitals in the area.
Recounting the harrowing scene, an eyewitness told our correspondent that, “A DAF truck loaded with granite lost control and swerved into the market while approaching the popular market from Dugbe end and killed one person in the process while several others were injured.”
Another source explained, “The driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure and subsequently rammed into the market.”
The incident, which occurred early Wednesday, was confirmed by the Chairman of Sango/Eleyele Motor Park, Olanrewaju Qazeem, and the Iyaloja of Eleyele Market, Ramota Ajobiare.
Both confirmed that one person died and several others were injured.
Speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Oyo State, Mayowa Odewo, stated, “One middle-aged woman died while lots of others sustained serious injuries in a lone crash in the Eleyele area of the state.”
Odewo stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
