OPINION:One Year After, Meet Some Aides Of Governor Makinde And Their Achievements (PART ONE)

A good government is not a rocket science neither fortuitous. It definitely has to do with individualism ready to ameliorate as many lives as possible. Most times, this particular individual is always surrounded with hardworking people in his cabinet, people who are not the impediment of democracy.

The government of oyo state ably led by Governor Seyi Makinde is performing very well, as many people in the state believe. As many elites have known that these dazzling performances couldn’t have been achieved by the governor alone, and not by lethargic aides. The state is dovetailed with a visionary governor and resilient aides.

First on the list is Mogaji Akin Fagbemi (OYRTMA).

He is an administrator per excellence, highly respected, prominent and efficient in this government.

Fagbemi didn’t earn this popularity overnight, his resiliency gave him this. Fagbemi attends to numerous people in his office everyday. Those that violate the OYRTMA Laws, those that need government help and many more. Most times, Fagbemi is always on the road either to control traffic or conduct enforcement exercise among road users.

He takes from his own pocket to help those who can’t pay the fines from government just to make sure that rights are not being infringed.

Significant achievements of OYRTMA within 4 months under Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi

1. Increased manpower through engagement of OYRTMA Mayors to carter for the 33 LGA of the State.

2. Complete overhaul of 10 moribund operational power bikes on OYRTMA’s fleet.

3. Complete overhaul of 10 additional operational Hilux vans on OYRTMA fleet.

4. Complete rejuvenation of rickety towing vans on OYRTMA fleet as only 1 of 7 was fully operational as at 28th of August, 2019.

5. Robust Social and Online media campaigns and Advocacy programs on Road Traffic Laws and Regulations.

6. Acquisition of over 250 capacity trailer park at OYRTMA Sanyo Operational Headquarters from State Government and many more.

Hon Segun Ogunwuyi

Director-General Oyo State Investment and Public Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA)

Excellent performance can’t also be overlooked especially from business owners that have benefited from his agency in this administration. Recall “economy” remains one of the four cardinal programmes of the Engr Seyi Makinde led government.

Three million naira loan scheme for Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises with the view to improving the economy of the state.

Recently, Ogunwuyi’s  Agency launched the POST COVID-19 ECONOMIC RECOVERY PLAN, where a sum of N5bn deal was signed with four different investors with the view to providing low-cost housing scheme for citizens of Oyo State.

The Ogbomoso born politician and former Federal Lawmaker used his technical ingenuity to resuscitate the abandoned Quarry Asphalt Plant that had become moribund due to neglect by previous administrations. Ogunwuyi is fondly referred to as ”the cook of the sumptuous soup.”

And not to talk of Free trade zone that would soon become operational and many companies that will be established not to talk of the AGBOWO COMPLEX which would soon be handed over to a private investor. Ogunwuyi is also one of the members of Oyo State Solid Minerals Board.
No doubt, Hon Ogunwuyi has performed excellently as an experienced politician.

KUNLE YUSSUF MON (SSA on SDGs)

In line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s promise to improve the Education sector, Office of the Oyo State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) headed by another brilliant administrator, Hon Kunle Yussuf MON, has completed the rehabilitation of 13 public primary schools in 12 local governments in the state wherein 144 projects were implemented.

The rehabilitated projects include construction and renovation of classrooms, VIP toilets, perimeter fencing, offices, food sheds as well as installations of solar powered boreholes.
Launching of SDGs Secondary Schools Club among others.
SDG Office headed by Kunle Yussuf has promised to facilitate grants for the Civil Society otherwise known as (NGO) to those that meet the requirements.

His office is the embodiment of all the four cardinal programmes of Engr Seyi Makinde which include, EDUCATION, HEALTH, ECONOMY, SECURITY.
Honestly, Hon Yusuf remains one of the life wire of this administration.

TAIWO ADISA AND JIDE AJANI (GSM MEDIA TEAM)

The Chief press secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Taiwo Adisa and Jide Ajani Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media are performing excellently in managing and promoting the good works of GSM to the good people of Oyo State and beyond. Little wonder Governor Makinde has been described as a Model or Symbol of good governance in Nigeria.

Taiwo Adisa and Jide Ajani have never put their principal in any controversy with the information being churn out from their office.
The duo have been tactical and pragmatic in their approach to critics of the Seyi Makinde led administration. They duo are not propagandists, they present facts and figures when the need arises.

Dr Nureni Adeniran (Chairman SUBEB) and Hon Sunday Adeyanju SSA BESDA)

The duo should be commended for the success recorded in the education sector in Oyo state. They have been able to implement the education policies of Engr Seyi Makinde. These include the free education policy in both primary and secondary schools and taking education to religious centres which has been described as a laudable initiative by all and sundry. Well, many see SUBEB as a home where cash flows while many have said Governor Makinde should separate office of OYO BESDA from SUBEB for optimal performance.

Barrister Bayo Lawal (Chairman Housing Corporation)

A successful lawyer, astute politician and a stakeholder in the Oke Ogun Project.
Since his appointment as the chairman Oyo State Housing Corporation, the Baamofin of Kishi has swung into action and in line with Governor Makinde’s policies, Bayo Lawal has mapped out plans on how to provide low cost housing estate for Oyo State residents, and upgrading all abandoned building facilities in the state. He was at OYSIPA Office where the N5bn deal was signed, he highlighted how the deal would impact positively on the projects outlined.

“The projects contained in the MoU include the design, construction, commissioning and management of Bodija Recreation Center by Refcon Ltd and construction of about 360 units of medium and low-cost housing estate by Remax Realtors and upgrading of the the Bodija Sport Complex to international standard.

Dr Debo Akande, (Executive Adviser on Agribusiness and DG OYSADA)

Dr Akande has proven his mettle as a brilliant individual with a difference. The Agric revolution under Governor Makinde has been remarkable. The signing of the OYSADA bill into law, relocation of the agency’s headquarters to Saki in Oke Ogun is another brilliant step taken by Seyi Makinde. Very soon, “Agric” will become the bedrock of Oyo State source of income.

Kazeem Bolarinwa (Special Assistant on Youth and Sports)

Kazeem Bolarinwa according to many, he is being misconstrue as the Commissioner for Youths and Sport in Oyo State because, Bolarinwa is vibrant, eloquent and most importantly efficient and effective. Kazeem Bolarinwa has been able to train and empower youths in the state on different entrepreneurial skills like ICT and others. The most recent was the partnership his office had with the Elumelu Foundation to train and empower youths drawn from all the 33 LG in Oyo state. Thanks to Governor Makinde for identifying Kazeem Bolarinwa.

Barrister Ayodele Adekanmbi,(Executive Assistant on Disability)

Ayodele Adekanbi is special breed, a rare gem who has been able to champion the cause of those living with disabilities in the administration of Engr Seyi Makinde. No administration in the history of Oyo State has been able to priorities the welfare of people with disabilities, more importantly, Makinde’s administration has given disabled people sense of belonging in governance. Remember each LG and LCDA in Oyo State is a member of the caretaker committee. Governor Makinde and Ayodele Adekanbi have consistently told those who care to listen that “there is ability in disability.”

Other prominent aides of Governor Makinde who are performing creditably include:

Dr Musbau Babatunde, (Special Adviser on Economic Affairs)

Bosede Sodiq, (Special Assistant on Broadcast)

Moses Alao, (Special Assistant on Print)

Akinkunmi Akinpelu John writes from Ibadan.
